Keep up with area news of how organizations are impacting our city. For example, The Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee (CAC) is committed to living and fulfilling the Promise of Community Action. In collaboration with its partners and volunteers, their staff has worked diligently to reduce poverty throughout our community and increase individual self-sufficiency.
Just one of the ways CAC helps our neighborhoods is through its Urban Agriculture Department; home to Beardsley Community Farm, which works towards a healthier community in Knoxville by providing culturally relevant produce, accessible education, and land and resources for gardening. The farm donates about 40,000 pounds of produce a year, with 10,000 pounds grown on site. The farm hosts thousands of volunteers annually, teaches about cooking and sustainable gardening to all ages, distributes seeds and seedlings, and has plots of land for free use all around the city.
Knox County parks offer not only a recreational area for citizens, but a range of sports activities for all ages.
The Knox County Planning Commission defines visions and creates plans that will guide growth, land use, transportation, economic prosperity, and quality of life in the County for years to come.
